Plant Focus: Allium sphaerocephalon

One of my favourite Alliums, although not looking so good this year. A. sphaerocephalon, otherwise known as the round headed leek, arrives later than other Alliums and in abundance! Its egg-shaped flower heads are vivid green and purple … graduating to deep purple as the flowers open. Works well with Eryngium and Echinops (repetition of form) and tall grasses – and bees just love it!
